Generate GC facilitates ambitious, place-based art through mentorship, collaboration, and community.
As a City of Gold Coast initiative, we support artists across disciplines to experiment, connect, and produce high-impact, conceptually driven work.
The program consists as a two-year structure where creatives across art forms are encouraged to push boundaries and to take creative risks. Joining a cohort of local creatives, participants connect with established artists and get support to expand their artistic practice.

Generate GC is designed for artists who want to expand their creative practice and explore new ground. We focus on:
Mentorship & Collaboration – Artists join a vibrant cohort, working alongside peers, producers and established professionals.
Conceptual Development – We encourage deep thinking, testing, and iteration of bold new ideas.
Professional Production – Projects are realised with high production values, ready for diverse audiences and environments.
Community and place.
We acknowledge and pay respects to the traditional Aboriginal people of the land where we stand and we acknowledge all their descendants. We also acknowledge the many Aboriginal people from other regions as well as Torres Strait and South Sea Islander people who now live in the local area and have made an important contribution to the community.
Beyond our shoreline and skyscrapers, is a vibrant cultural landscape in motion. Here we encourage our cohort artists to connect to community and place to inspire new ideas and shape the story they want to tell.
The reach of our artists goes far beyond the Gold Coast. They have stepped onto stages, exhibited in galleries and and engaged with communities across Australia — bringing work developed here to audiences everywhere. Generate GC presenting partners include

The Labs are about pushing boundaries and expanding practice. They encourage artists to think beyond the immediate, and begin imagining works of scale for festivals, independent platforms and new audiences.
Just like a science lab, ideas incubate, react and evolve into powerful new works.
Beyond the Labs cohort artists are supported to research and develop and idea with program and producer support.
Our intensive Lab program supports bold ideas need space to unfold and take shape.
The foundation of Generate GC, the Labs are interdisciplinary spaces where cohort artists are invited to experiment, collaborate and take creative risks. Over eight days, participants engage in a process of exploration, guided by a team of Provocateurs —experienced artists, curators and designers — who bring deep knowledge from a range of artforms as well as national and international contexts.
Following the Lab, artists are supported through a funded Research and Development phase with mentorship from the Program Producer. The program culminates in a Creative Development stage, where artists build partnerships, pitch for presentation opportunities and continue growing a strong professional network.
