KANNITHA LY

Kannitha Ly is an artist and designer. Her work encompasses sculpture, installation art, printmaking and papermaking. Ly appreciates the gesture that the sense of materiality offers within her work. She utilises various mediums and techniques and draws on elements of the everyday to impart its inherent nature and history to her artwork. In recent projects she has incorporated recycled clothing, old maps, newspapers and eucalyptus leaves into her art pieces to subtly reference notions of people, life, societal events and norms and the built and natural environment. These ideas relate to her interest in suburbia, society and the environment.

Ly has a diverse background having completed a Bachelor of Fine Art (Distinction) from the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, a Bachelor of Architectural Design from Griffith University and a Bachelor of Pharmacy from Charles Sturt University. She has previously exhibited at the Swell Sculpture Festival and was a finalist in the Churchie National Emerging Art Prize. Ly has also been a part of a Fine Art and Photography study tour in New York, which culminated in a group exhibition in New York.
