The foundation of the Generate GC program are the interdisciplinary Labs. The Labs take the form of an intensive professional development phase that encourages selected artists to take risks, expand their practice and to consider works of scale for independent outcomes, festivals and presentation platforms. Designed to engage participants in eight days of exploratory process, provocations and mentoring, the Labs are led by ‘Provocatuers’ - industry experts, experienced artists, curators and designers - and are the catalyst for new ideas, collaborations, networks and imaginings. Provocateurs include established artists experienced in making works for a broad range of contexts nationally and internationally.

Following the Labs, participants are mentored with the aim of developing a creative concept that is pitched for a funded Research and Development phase supported by the Program Producer.

The program culminates in a Creative Development phase that supports the artists to develop artwork for presentation and to build long lasting professional networks through the commissioning process.
