ALICIA JONES
Alicia Melonie Jones is a performance artist residing on Yugambeh country (Gold Coast). A heritage of Aboriginal/Australian, Alicia’s solo work questions modes of knowledge, cycles of violence and the media control of information. Alicia’s body of work stems from her journey back to country (Ben Lomond/Swanport) with performance/installations created to activate cathartic experiences and fracture the status quo.
Alicia is a senior member of OZFRANK Theatre Film Company (2004+) specialising in the Nobbs Suzuki Praxis (NSP). Created by esteemed choreographer/director Jacqui Carroll and dancer/actor John Nobbs, the NSP transports the Suzuki Method of Actor Training with western dance styles of classical ballet and modern dance technique including Martha Graham.
Alicia has studied Bodyweather regularly with Tess De Quincey and Butoh with various international practitioners including Kan Katsura, Fran Barbe, Stefano Tauiti and Mark Hill. Alicia is a key ensemble dancer in multi-award winning show “Evangeline” with Little Dove Theatre Art (2015/17/19) and a collaborative member of Us and All of This for Liesel Zink. In 2021, Alicia is artist in residence at Metro Arts with performing detention and Blue Sky co-residence with Victoria Hunt for Placemakers Gold Coast.
Highlights of Alicia’s artistic career include artistic residence at inclusive dance festival Moonah Moves, Moonah Arts Centre (TAS 2018), Home of the Arts (Gold Coast 2016-18), the State Library of Queensland (07-10) and The Dreaming Festival (09-10). Alicia was commissioned by the National Gallery of Australia (10) and selected as part of the Australian Korean International Cultural Exchange (2017/19). Alicia is successfully growing her visual arts practice contributing 2d and 3d works for South Stradbroke Island Indigenous Artist Camps (15/17), Not Just Dots... (Robina Art Gallery 15), On The Wing (Lorraine Pilgrim Galleries 2019).
Alicia supports her creative practice with roles in Cultural Event Management, Peer Assessor Regional Arts Australia and teaching appointments across educational sectors. Alicia has qualifications in the Creative Industries, Early Childhood Education and Business Management and is currently studying a Diploma in Counselling.
