TAL FITZPATRICK

Tal Fitzpatrick (she/her) is an Israeli born Australian artist based on the unceded lands of the Kombumerri families of the Yugambeh language region. She holds a PhD in Visual Art from the Victorian College of the Arts (2018) and a Bachelor of Arts with First Class Honours from Griffith University (2010). 

Tal’s work has been exhibited in museums, galleries and art spaces in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Hobart, as well as abroad in Sweden, Canada and America. Her art is featured in the retrospective of Australian feminist artists 'Doing Feminism' by Anne Marsh (2021). She has received grants from the City of Gold Coast Regional Arts Development Fund, Creative Victoria, City of Melbourne and the Creative Suburbs Grant. Along with Kate Just she was the winner of the Incinerator Gallery People's Choice Award for the @covid19quilt project (2020).

Best known for her work in the field of craftivism, Tal, along with collaborators such as Stephanie Dunlap, has led several global craftivism projects that tackle complex social, political and environmental issues including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Quilt Project (2016-2018) and the PM Please Quilt Project (2017) – both now held as part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Australian Democracy in Old Parliament House, Canberra.

In 2023 Tal was awarded an Incubate residency by Placemakers Gold Coast and held her first Gold Coast solo exhibition ‘Quietly Seething’ at Art-Work Agency which was supported by the City of Gold Coast Regional Arts Development Fund.
