What makes a house a home?

PROJECT: A HOUSE, A HOME
ARTIST: DARCIE RAE
PROJECT PARTNERS: GLITTER MARTINI, GOLD COAST OPEN HOUSE, KINGFISHER HOUSE, ANYWHERE FESTIVAL, THE FARM(HOUSE), REGIONAL ARTS DEVELOPMENT FUND GOLD COAST, ARTS QUEENSLAND

A House, A Home is an intimate, surprising and delightful contemporary performance work, and a one-of-a-kind circus and architecture experience. Playing on the dream of home ownership the work pushes at the boundaries of the functionality of dwellings. Animating spaces with acrobatics, contortion and dance, a highly skilled ensemble of artists interact with the home in extraordinary ways.

The audience are invited to book an inspection during an ‘open house’ whereby a real estate agent guides them through the property and the interactive artwork experience. The audience are invited to share the living spaces of the home with ‘the tenants’, experiencing the architecture of the building as a site-specific stage for contemporary circus.

Developments for A House, A Home took place in a an Air BnB in Coomera and a warehouse setting at The Farm(House) in Miami before being presented as a site-specific pilot season in the Kingfisher House in Currumbin, as part of the 2023 Gold Coast Open House fringe program.
